The first ever Butler Street Bark-a-thon was held on Saturday, May 21, at Arsenal Park. This community event drew more than 40 participants on one of the few sunny days in May. The event included music by local DJ and radio personality Zombo, a raffle auction with items from local businesses, a tricks and sit-stay competition, and a community dog walk down Butler Street.
Donors, sponsors and participants helped us raise over $900 towards the construction of the Bernard Dog Run. Thank you so much to everyone who participated!
We expect the Bark-a-thon festival and community dog walk to become an annual spring-time event celebrating Lawrenceville’s dog community and dog-related businesses.
What are the next steps you ask?
The dog run has been approved! The Allegheny Valley Railroad (AVR) recently removed two piles of abandonned rail road ties and we are working with the City’s urban forester to remove non-native tree species (native species will be planted). The City’s Department of Public Works, Forestry and our City Councilor Patrick Dowd’s Office are working with us, the Lawrenceville United and Lawrenceville Corporation to get this park built as soon as possible.
